The 18-year old Welsh defender joins the Bundesliga outfit on a season-long loan.
He is a talented footballer who can play in defence as well as defensive midfield. He has a good passing range and is strong with his tackles.
He joined Chelsea having progressed through the academy of Exeter City. He was used sparingly under Sarri last season before Conte handed him the debut in 2017. The move to RB Leipzig comes in search of more game time. The Bundesliga is known for the opportunity given to young players and this will certainly help Ethan.
Lampard previously said: “I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, in the interest of Ethan and of Chelsea, the idea he can play a lot of games somewhere could be good for him.
I really wanted to work with Ethan this year. That’s a slight disappointment, but it’s to benefit of him. In midfield and defence, we have a lot of quality, so each player is a case by case.”
In 2018 he signed a new 5-year contract. He has 8 international caps so far.
