Chelsea had a very eventful pre-season in 2019 and here’s what you might have missed:
Kasey Palmer joined Bristol City on a permanent deal
Palmer made 17 appearances for the Robins last season and now has moved there on a permanent deal. He joined Chelsea from Charlton in 2013 and played for the youth team predominantly. The 22-year-old will now join former Chelsea players Jay Dasilva and Tomas Kalas who followed the same path to the championship club.
Jamie Cumming signs a 4-year contract
Keeper Jamie Cumming has signed a new deal with Chelsea and is expected to be the club’s third-choice keeper for the season. He has made considerable appearances for the team in pre-season and is expected to play in cup matches if Kepa or Caballero is unfit. He has the opportunity to work under club legend Petr Cech.
Carlo Cudicini appointed loan players technical coach
He has taken the role following Eddie Newton’s move to Lampard’s backroom staff. He became club ambassador in 2015 and has been the keeping coach under Conte and Sarri.
Gallagher goes on loan
Academy player Conor Gallagher has signed a new contract and moved on his first loan to Charlton Athletic. The 19-year-old won the Academy player of the year award last season and made a couple of appearances this pre-season in Dublin.
Claude Makelele returns to Chelsea as a technical mentor
He will work closely with the youth and the loan players. He had a great spell as a player at the club making 217 appearances in 5 years.
Dujon Sterling joins Wigan on loan
The winger made his debut for the first team in September 2017. He spent last season on loan at Coventry City. He will now spend the season on loan at Wigan Athletic.
2019/20 squad numbers announced
The squad numbers of the players for the upcoming season has been announced. Willian inherits the No.10 from Hazard while Pulisic will wear the No.22 vacated by the Brazilian. Christensen takes the No.4 from Fabregas.
